Oslofjord Convention Center appoints Berit Svendsen as new Chair of the Board

Berit Svendsen er ny styreleder i Oslofjord Convention Center.

Oslofjord Convention Center has undergone significant changes in recent years, with new ownership, a new CEO, and a clear commercial push both nationally and internationally. Berit Svendsen now steps in as Chair of the Board, joining this next phase of development.

Svendsen has held several senior executive positions at Telenor, including Executive Vice President and CEO of Telenor Norway. She has also led Vipps’ international expansion and brings extensive board experience from companies such as DNB, Vy and SAS. She emphasizes that growth potential is always a key factor when evaluating board positions.

“I quickly realized that this is something out of the ordinary. The combination of scale, professionalism, location, and clear commercial ambition is rare in a European context. When you see the full picture, the capacity, the organization, and the direction, you understand the magnitude of the potential.”

Berit Svendsen on the potential of Oslofjord

Located by the waterfront between Tønsberg and Sandefjord in Vestfold, Oslofjord Convention Center is Europe’s largest conference village, with capacity for around 9,000 overnight guests. The venue hosts large-scale events across business, academia, sports, and culture, and is designed to create experiences and meeting places at a scale few others can match. In recent years, the organization has strengthened its position as a professional and commercially driven arena for both national and international clients.

Svendsen highlights the venue’s scalability in particular—its ability to handle large volumes while maintaining quality, logistics, and security. She points out that the infrastructure is already in place, and that the next phase is about strengthening the position further and ensuring profitable growth. She also underlines the human dimension:

“Oslofjord is not just a large venue. It is an arena for experiences and human connections that truly need to be experienced. That gives it a unique position in the market.”

A business in strong development

In recent years, Oslofjord Convention Center has built structure, professionalized its operations, and established a clear commercial direction. According to CEO Camilla Hållbro, this is now delivering tangible results, with strong growth and increasing demand both nationally and internationally.

“We have been through a comprehensive transformation. The structure and commercial foundation are now in place, and we are seeing the results of that work. With Berit’s international experience and strategic background, we are strengthening the board in a phase of increasing activity and ambition.”

Long-term value creation and sustainability

Svendsen believes her experience from executive and board roles will be particularly relevant in the phase Oslofjord is now entering.

“When the foundation is in place and demand is growing, the focus shifts to further developing the strategy and ensuring long-term profitable growth. I look forward to contributing to that.”

She also highlights sustainability as a key factor for future events and partnerships, emphasizing the need to integrate it into continued development.

Svendsen has already assumed the role and looks forward to working closely with the management team and the organization as a whole.

Oslofjord Convention Center is owned by Oslofjordstiftelsen.
