Following the ownership change in 2024, Oslofjord is strengthening its commercial strategy and reorganising its sales operations to take a clearer position in the congress market. The aim is to increase focus on international clients.
– We are now placing a stronger emphasis on the congress segment, where we see significant untapped potential. At the same time, this is part of a broader development, where we are working in a more targeted and commercially driven way than before, says Joyce Christine Andersen, who leads the international congress initiative.
She highlights the appointment of Marita Lindvik as an important step in the continued development. Lindvik brings solid experience in destination development, which will be key in attracting more international events.
Congresses differ from traditional conferences in terms of scale, multiple parallel programme tracks, and higher demands for logistics and planning. The new organisation introduces clearer ownership of different segments and closer follow-up throughout the customer journey.
– We have a capacity and an integrated offering that few venues in Europe can match. This gives us a strong foundation for attracting more large-scale events from both Norway and abroad, where scale, logistics, and execution truly make the difference, Andersen adds.
Destination and sustainability as competitive advantages
Marita Lindvik, former Head of Visit Nordfjord, joins Oslofjord as Senior Manager.
– I look forward to contributing to the continued development following the ownership change and reorganisation in 2024, where Oslofjord has established a clearer commercial direction. The current focus on congresses highlights significant untapped potential, and more and more organisers, both domestic and international, are discovering Oslofjord as a venue for large-scale events.
She notes that her experience from Visit Nordfjord has provided a strong foundation in destination development, strategic planning and cross-industry collaboration – with a particular focus on sustainability and long-term value creation.
She points out that succeeding in the international congress market requires both a strong destination identity and the ability to document sustainability in ways that are relevant to clients.
Part of a broader development
The reorganisation is part of a larger development, with the ambition of further establishing Oslofjord as a professional and life-stance-neutral arena for national and international events.
